Did you know that twelve M&M's have less sugar than one banana?

A former runway model and fitness expert asks whether chocolate is healthier than a banana.

This is after she demonstrated that twelve M&Ms contain 7g of sugar while a banana contains 14g. Of course, at first glance, this leaves people with a glimmer of hope that perhaps they are justified in choosing chocolate over fruit regarding their sweet cravings. But wait, there's more.

Georgia Heins delves deeper into these two snacks' effects on your body.

Heins goes on to show that when you consume the M&Ms, your body goes into shock due to the refined sugars in your bloodstream.

This, in turn, increases blood sugar levels, which causes your body to react with insulin to bring your blood sugar levels down.

The tricky part comes into play when the drop in blood sugar leaves you tired and enhances your craving for more sugar.

These effects not only affect your skin but also your waistline. Then Heins turns to the banana and what happens to your body when consuming 14g of natural sugars.

We love how Heins addressed the key differences between eating refined sugars and natural sugars. It is important to know that this doesn't mean you shouldn't eat chocolate at all; that's your prerogative if you want to.

But finding balance with your snacks is important to maintain good health. Another way to stop sweet cravings is to eat regular, balanced meals that include fibre and eggs.

Believe it or not, getting more sleep can also help with cravings. When you do not get a healthy night's rest, your body looks for sugary foods for a quick boost of energy.
