Buzz like a bee for the first day of school!

Grade 1 teacher, Emily Dearham (@beeingthefoundation), is our special guest this week – and what she's shared with us has made our hearts so warm and happy.

She is calming our nerves and giving us wonderful tips on how to prepare our little ones for big school!

It's both exciting and daunting, but hearing from a teacher will help you better understand how to be ready for school – and away goes the nerves and the worries!

Brought to you by Epi-max Baby & Junior – our family, for your family. Also supported by Jacaranda 94.2.

About Emily Dearham

I specialise in foundation phase teaching, working with children aged five to nine.

I have taken a special interest in Grade R – the first year of school before formal education starts.

Grade R is a unique year, where play-based learning is fully integrated into the curriculum.

At 25 years old, I'm a qualified foundation phase teacher – I obtained my degree from CPUT in Wellington in 2022. I'm an education fanatic and love to share my journey and the realities of being in the classroom through social media.

As a businesswoman and entrepreneur, my goal is to change teaching and education in South Africa, inspiring one heart at a time.

While navigating life with ADHD presents challenges, I embrace it as a superpower that helps me change the world.

I currently teach at Amstelhof Primary School in Paarl, Western Cape.

Tune in to the 'Workzone with Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp', weekdays from 09:00 – 12:00. Stream the show live here or download our mobile app here.
