Heading to the beach this school holiday or Easter break? These simple yet clever hacks will help you blend in with the locals – and keep the sand where it belongs.

Plus, you'll look like a total pro when showing them off.

1. The towel tuck

Nothing ruins a beach day faster than finding sand in everything you own.

To keep your towel sand-free, tuck the corners into the sand when laying it down – this keeps it secure and keeps excess sand off your towel.

2. Plastic cover-up

Keep your valuables safe by packing them into a plastic container. Cut a small hole in the lid and secure your flip-flop on top.

Bury the container in the sand, leaving only the flip-flop visible. No one will suspect a thing.

3. Plaster your port

Keep sand out of your phone’s charging port by covering it with a plaster. A little prevention goes a long way in avoiding damage.

4. Flip-flop fix

Flip-flops are notorious for breaking at the worst times. If the thong starts to come loose, loop a hairband around the base to hold it in place.

Although it's a temporary fix, it will save you from going barefoot for the rest of the day.

5. Plastic bag foot rinse

This might be the only time it's okay to bring plastic to the beach. Fill a bag with seawater and use it to rinse off your feet before stepping onto your towel.

No more sandy toes ruining your chill time.
