JHB mom questions the contents of party packs these days

What's up with party packs these days, they've become so bougie...

Parents are known to go a bit overboard with how they celebrate kids' birthdays these days. Once, birthdays were kept simple without all the frills and thrills, but they are now known to be extraordinary; from overpriced balloon backdrops to personalised gifts for the kiddies and pyrotechnics.

We love this for parents who have the budget to treat their kids to extravagant birthdays, but it does leave the flock of parents who cannot afford this in a pickle when they cannot deliver on the same standard.

It's a societal thing, we need to shift our thoughts and behaviour. It is not necessary for us to compete or compare with our fellow community of parents, but somehow, we live in a society that places us on a battlefield.

A Johannesburg mother made a point of sharing a party pack that her son recently received at school. It was one of his classmates' birthdays, so he got a party pack to take home.

The mom, who goes by Mama Magnified on TikTok, shared how cute the gift bag was and showed us what was inside.

She showed off a Cadbury slab, a small container of Pringles, a juice box, some sour gummies, a small packet of Oreos, and a Rubik's cube.

The party pack could've cost more than R100, including the gift bag. Her son shared that he had 23 classmates, that's a total of approximately R2,300 for party packs alone...

While mama insisted that the slab of chocolate would be for her, the young man made a stellar argument that the contents of the bag were his.
