The Elf on the Shelf has become a popular Christmas tradition for families with young kids. Its charm lies not only in its festive spirit but also in the magic it brings during the holiday season.

The tradition involves the elf visiting homes, observing what's happening, and then reporting back to Santa Claus. The real fun begins when parents get creative with the elf’s antics, setting up playful scenes around the house that make it appear as though the elf is actively spying on the family.

This imaginative approach has inspired many parents to go above and beyond, staging elaborate setups that entertain kids and add to the excitement of the season.

It captures the magic of imagination and gets kids excited about the Christmas countdown.

But a mother, who may have gone a bit too far with her prank, was surprised when her actions brought her son's potty mouth out in the open. She set up a playful scene with the elf, placing a nail polish bottle in its hands and asking her son if the elf had painted its nails.

The young boy's reaction was initially one of excitement, but things took an unexpected turn when he became upset and used bad language about the elf painting his toenails.

Here are some tips on what to do when kids use foul language.

  • Ignore the behaviour: Experts suggest that sometimes, ignoring the use of swear words can help kids lose interest in using them.
  • Create consequences: If swearing persists, consider introducing negative consequences. For example, a swear jar can be an effective method – anyone in the home who uses a swear word must contribute a small amount to the jar.
  • Be a good role model: Kids often mimic the behaviour they see, so avoid using bad language in front of them.
