Mom shares five swaps that helps her save R2k a month
Updated | By The Workzone with Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp/Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
This mother swapped out some of her regular household items for budget-friendly options to beat inflation.

With inflation hitting hard, families of all sizes are feeling the pinch. Finding ways to cut back has become more of a necessity than a choice.
Adjusting your lifestyle
isn’t always easy, especially when little ones are used to specific
brands and routines. But for many parents, making practical changes is
the only way to stay afloat.
Local mom and content creator Aisha O'Reilly, known for her relatable mom plugs, parenting hacks, and family fun tips, recently shared some of the changes her family has made to reduce monthly expenses, showing that small shifts can add up to big savings.
O'Reilly and her family have managed to save over R2,000 a month by making a few simple yet effective changes.
For a household of six, that’s a big win. The swaps were small but added up fast. They replaced shower gel with bar soap, cutting R500 from their monthly spend.
Swapping honey for brown sugar saved another R200, and switching from a branded saline spray to a DIY version shaved off R80.
Beyond product swaps, the family made two major changes to their energy usage. They ditched the electric kettle for a stovetop one, saving R500, and started switching off their geyser during the day – a change that’s now saving them another R1,000 a month.
To be exact, they saved R2,280 – money that can go towards a basic amenity bill.
