A shocking video sends chills down our spines as a baby is seen walking toward a busy road.

Road safety remains a major concern for both motorists and pedestrians. Accidents and incidents on South Africa's roads are a leading contributor to our country's death toll.

We recently came across a video that has caused uproar online as it highlights the lack of responsibility some parents show when out with their children.

In the video, a mother films herself making a social media reel at an undisclosed location, likely abroad, with mountains as her backdrop. While dancing for the camera, she fails to notice her baby walking toward the busy road behind her.

As she laughs and dances, a boy, who we assume is her son, runs towards her, trying to warn her about the baby's actions, but she doesn't acknowledge him.

Instead, she encourages him to join her dance. The boy persists, eventually getting her attention to look at the baby, who is nearly at the road. When she sees this, she quickly runs to the child.

"In an age where social media reigns supreme, many users go to extreme lengths to create viral content. While some succeed in producing engaging and entertaining videos, others end up risking their lives and the safety of others, all for the sake of fame." (Hindustan Times)

People were angry, with some even suggesting that such behaviour could lead to the mother being jailed in certain Western countries.

  • "Lots of young parents are more focused on mobile than kids. They can’t discipline kids, nor they can look after kids. Sad situation."
  • "She still has a shameless smile on her face. Disgusting."
  • "This Reel-Making fever is getting worse day by day. Strict action must be taken on such things to avoid youth wasting time with no future for themselves or their country."
  • "Idiotic and irresponsible action of the mother...she didn't think of the safety of her children...who is she trying to influence... This stupid reel-making is utter nonsense and is making people mad. They are doing stunts just for some attention. Ridiculous social media."
