The world has evolved in its ideas of successful occupations and careers, and people have also evolved in their ideas of what defines success in a career.

Some still aspire to become doctors, lawyers, teachers, accountants, and engineers, but success is not heavily weighted on these careers anymore. The idea of success has expanded and seeped into a more significant career pot that defies the status quo and all the conformities of how success used to be considered.

Nadia Jaftha, an award-winning content creator, entrepreneur, and entertainer, is a prime example of how doing what you love doesn't have to be predefined. You can create your version of success and it's okay if there's no predefined blueprint on how to do it.

Jaftha recently hosted her first Creator Masterclass with her team at Ace Labs - and it looked like it was a huge success.

Nadia and her team hosted many people at the event, many of whom have earned a name for themselves on the social scene.

Becoming a content creator is a sought-after career choice for many South Africans, so we wanted to share some tips from Jaftha on things she wishes she had known when she started.

First, have a look at the masterclass reel from her Instagram page.

Now for the tips:

  1. Nadia says you don't need the priciest gear when you start. However, having good audio and video quality can make a huge difference.
  2. Understanding monetisation, analytics, and branding is critical in content creation. Learning to market yourself can set you apart from others and help you grow.
  3. She said that your brand is more than just aesthetics. It combines your vibe, style, and how you incorporate your audience into your content. Owning your brand and who you are as an individual matters and helps grow your audience. Your authenticity will be noticed in your audience engagement. Taking time to figure out what your brand is matters.
  4. Collaboration can open doors for you. She says partnering with other content creators will help you grow your brand. Not only does it open up fresh ideas for you as a brand, but it also exposes you to new audiences. "Don't be afraid to reach out to content creators in your niche or outside."
  5. Networking can help you branch out into new areas, business opportunities, not to mention friendships.
