Neighbours call the police over noisy kids
Updated | By The Workzone with Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp
"We have a trampoline in the backyard and our neighbours call the police on us..."
We usually get worried when the kids are too quiet, as it often means they are up to no good, but there's a particular honour in letting children be children.
We are told to be mindful of noisy kids when we are out in public because noise makes people uncomfortable. Society also associates noise with lousy parenting.
It can be said that when you live in a flat/apartment building you have to stop all noise at a reasonable time. You don't usually get that from a freestanding home.
Sometimes you do, but we didn't expect this to happen. A family shared a video of a policeman at their door. He is responding to a complaint about screaming kids.
The policeman asks if the kids are okay, and the dad responds by saying that they have a trampoline in the backyard and that their kids play on it, causing the neighbours to call the police occasionally.
The policeman politely bid them farewell, and the dad apologised for any inconvenience.
