Reigning Mrs SA says goodbye as 2024 crown awaits new winner
Updated | By The Workzone with Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp
Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp recently spoke to the reigning Mrs South Africa, Tshego Gaelae, about her experience being the reigning queen ahead of the 2024 Mrs SA crowing on Friday, 15 November.
The world of pageantry is often perceived as a celebration of beauty and glamour, yet the Mrs South Africa Pageant seeks to redefine these stereotypes by positioning itself as a powerful platform that empowers women.
Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp spoke to Joani Johnson, the CEO of Mrs South Africa, and Tshego Gaelae, the reigning Mrs South Africa, about the meaning of the pageant and 2024 crowning.
Mrs South Africa Pageant: More Than Just a Pageant
The Mrs South Africa Pageant stands out in the realm of beauty contests. It's not merely about the crown; it's about what that crown represents.
Joani Johnson shared that the event is primarily a women empowerment platform. Open to married women between the ages of 25 and 55, the pageant seeks to support women from diverse backgrounds in their personal and professional development.
While the marital criterion is mandatory, having children is not, emphasising inclusivity and breaking traditional moulds.
Tshego Gaelae: The Reigning Queen
Listeners were captivated by the personal stories shared by Tshego Gaelae, the current Mrs South Africa.
Tshego has spent her reign championing authenticity and empowerment, making a tangible difference while staying true to her values.

Her experiences reflect a journey of self-discovery and growth, revealing that true empowerment lies in being authentic and relatable.
As her reign comes to a close, she reflects on a year filled with dreams realised and impactful representation.
A Journey of Empowerment and Development
Joani Johnson articulated the evolution of the pageant into an empowerment platform, offering more than just a sash and a crown.
Described as an "MBA of Life", it prepares participants with leadership, communication, and personal branding skills, fostering development in a supportive sisterhood.
The ultimate goal is for participants to walk away feeling empowered, worthy, and able to step confidently into their power, with or without winning the title.
Upcoming Grand Finale: Join the Celebration
As Tshego prepares to hand over her crown, the anticipation builds for the Mrs South Africa Grand Finale.
This grand event, scheduled for 15 November 2024, at the Emperors Palace Theatre of Marcellus, will feature top designers, talent, and celebrities.
The evening begins with a VIP Red Carpet at 18h30, followed by the show at 20h00 sharp.
