Appreciating someone's kindness can come in the form of wanting to give back.
We recently heard a piece of advice from a parent that we should move away from 'bribing' our kids. In other words, when we tell them eat their food and they will get ice-cream.
Her reasoning was that this teaches our kids that when they do something they can expect something in return.

In a video of a student who was performing a kindness social experiment, it seems we got taught this lesson.
He asked a woman who was at a vegetable stall for some food because he was hungry and did not have any money.
The woman gave him some sweet potatoes after asking him if he could cook.
Then as he revealed the truth behind it all, it seemed that he was pleasantly surprised to hear her response.
When he tried to gift her with some money as a gesture of kindness in response to openly giving, she refused.
Her response: "I cannot help a person and take something in return."
She went on to say that she is a mother, and she doesn't need his help today, but another day she may need help and her kind deed will come to her when she needs it most.
