"There's a lion on the back of that bakkie!"

"There's a lion on the back of that bakkie!"

Could this be something that only happens in South Africa?

This video takes us back to many foreigners' suppositions of South Africa.

Many have assumed a version of South Africa where lions walk freely on the streets and live harmoniously with the people. Although there might be some truth to that (if you are in a game reserve or work in a conservation park), it is rarely how we, South Africans, know it to be.

Or so we thought, considering lions were discovered in a home in Westville, Durban.

A video shared on social media shows us something you don't see often.

A bakkie is transporting a lion in a cage. The lion looks relatively calm and doesn't seem phased by the other vehicles on the road or the movement.

Perhaps it was medicated before the journey? We can admit that we have seen cattle in transit before, but never wild animals such as this beautiful beast.

It got us thinking of Alex from the movie 'Madagascar'.

We are interested to know what was happening here because there have been people who keep these wild animals in residential areas, which poses a risk to the rest of the community and denies these beautiful creatures the chance to live a normal life in their natural surroundings.
