As learners proceed to plan out their days between studying for their end-of-year examinations and taking time to eat, rest, and repeat, we thought it would be a good idea to share some information.

Planning time to prepare for healthy eating while studying can be stressful. Who has the time? However, planning your food and beverage menu during your examinations or studying is vital.

Not only will you notice the results in your examinations if you practice eating healthier consistently, but you will also feel better mentally and physically. It is scary to see how many learners carry energy drinks, believing that these fizzy concoctions will give them the necessary energy to study and write their papers.

When the truth behind them is that they provide short bursts of energy and are high in sugar, not the natural kind. Therefore, it is better to consume drinks that will not only help boost your memory, but also help keep you healthy.

Water

The value of water is underrated when it comes to studying. People often turn to drinks that will give them the energy to stay awake and alert, not realising that good old-fashioned water is the best wonder drink.

"Water deserves a place on this list because it's readily available and crucial for optimal brain function. Our brains are composed of 73% water. Even mild dehydration can significantly impact your cognitive abilities. Dehydration can lead to difficulty focusing, impaired short-term memory, trouble recalling long-term memories, reduced ability to perform mental math, and increased likelihood of mistakes and accidents." (Health.com)

100% Orange Juice

"One hundred percent orange juice has several nutrients and phytonutrients that may play a role in cognitive health when consumed as part of a balanced diet. These include vitamin C, thiamin, vitamin B6, and flavonoids such as hesperidin." (Health.com)

Research has revealed that drinking one cup of natural juice (in this case, 100% orange juice) helps lower the risk of dementia compared to those who do not consume 100% orange juice.

Cocoa beverages

"Research suggests that cocoa flavanols may improve blood flow in the brain, leading to enhanced cognitive processing."

Now this does not mean you should overindulge in hot chocolate or chocolate. Remember, the benefits of the flavanols in cocoa here come from raw cocoa, not the processed form loaded with sugar.
