Toddler gets his head stuck inside a barstool

Something like this is bound to happen at least once to you as a parent...
There are things that just happen and you respond the best you can as a parent.
But there are definitely times where you freak out and you have to show your brave face because your kid is unsettled and screaming in discomfort.
We saw a video that triggered our inner anxiety showing a young boy who got his head stuck inside a plastic stool.
Now, as a parent, there are many, many things that you are equipped to handle. In fact, there are some things that you sort of expect over time.
That's because you know that your kids are learning and extremely experimental, but does that really prepare you for everything?
When we saw this video, it got us thinking that maybe not every parent has stealth mode in their arsenal.
And if that is the case, then we suggest following these steps.
1. Stay calm. As much as we know that is easier said than done, it is imperative that you remain cool. If your child sees you panic, then they will panic.
2. Think of a solution. If you are unable to think clearly, call on someone to help. Your partner, neighbour, emergency services - anyone.
3. Keep communicating with your child. Make sure they know you are there for them and that you are not going to leave them. This is paramount. Maybe bring them something that calms them. Play a song, or a teddy, or toy, something they find comfort in.
4. Don't scream or reprimand the child. Wait to help them out of the sticky situation and then calmly bring it up at a later time.
5. If you are not around, teach your child to always remain calm. Do test drills with them and make it educational with entertainment.
