Going on a safari is an incredible holiday experience for both locals and international visitors.

South Africa’s rich wildlife is something to be admired, offering the rare opportunity to see some of nature’s most magnificent creatures up close.

While most safari tours remind guests that wildlife sightings aren’t guaranteed – especially when it comes to the Big Five – one lucky tour group at Kapama River Lodge, located in the Kapama Private Reserve in Limpopo, had an unforgettable encounter.

After finishing their tea in the bush, the group set off to see the giraffes. As they approached, their tour guide – who has spent years on the reserve – spotted a zebra in labour.

She carefully drove closer, allowing everyone to witness the miraculous moment as the mother zebra gave birth to her foal. It’s always remarkable how instinctive and effortless birth appears in the wild.

Both mother and foal seemed healthy and content, nestling together before the little one made its first attempt to stand.

It was a beautiful reminder of the simplicity and depth of the bond between mother and child in nature.
