VIDEO: A simple act of kindness during loadshedding
Updated | By The Workzone with Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp/Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
A heartwarming act of kindness shows us how loadshedding cannot break our sense of humanity.
The return of loadshedding wasn't exactly what people wanted to hear after a good run without it.
In other words, it wasn't welcomed news. But in 2025, we are letting go of things that are out of our control. Steering this ship without a light force is never easy, but there's always a different light. However, you must be willing to look in the right places.
A positively heartwarming video made us look at things from the right angle when loadshedding hit last Friday.
In a video shared by Theshaan K on TikTok, we saw a group of people unite in the name of kindness and goodwill.
Theshaan shared how his grandmother, who is in a wheelchair, was left in a tricky predicament when loadshedding hit last Friday. They were out at a shopping centre in Cape Town when Stage 3 kicked in.
The centre didn't seem equipped to handle loadshedding for wheelchair users. The elevator was nonfunctional, leaving Theshaan's grandmother and her family feeling vulnerable. But in the true spirit of Ubuntu, some of the staff at The Otto's Cafè assisted the elderly woman down the staircase.
The video resonated with many people who shared positive sentiments.
- "THAT'S WHAT YOU CALL HUMANITY."
- "Well done SA men."
- "People are generally good. A few spoil it for all. Well done, guys. you have been taught the correct way."
- "Grandma doesn't look too impressed. But nice to see people coming together to help others."
