When a grown man sounds shaky in his voice, you know something is up...

A distressed father and comedian took to social media yesterday to express his worry about his son's creche closing for 2024.

Of course, we notice a nice pairing of humour and deep-rooted anxiety over how the holidays will work without school. Late last month, we saw the school teacher, Riaan Durand, asking parents where their kids were because the school hadn't officially closed yet, and they were at home.

As the schools and daycares or creches prepare for the school term to come to an end, many teachers are willingly handing over their kids to parents. It's been a long and challenging year, and everyone needs a break.

Watch as this father's amusing video attracted various views from social media users.

We shared some handy hacks for keeping your kids occupied and busy during the holidays. Check them out below:

  • Plan activities based on your kids' interests and set a timetable. Liaise with them so that they feel a sense of control.
  • Holiday work—Set up a holiday job for the older kids, perhaps even making it something they could do at home, like cleaning the house, yard, or cooking.
  • Volunteering—Get them to volunteer, perhaps at the local library, community policing forum, community upliftment projects, etc. Volunteering is great as it teaches them responsibility and gives them purpose, and it also looks good on their school records when they decide to apply to study further or get an internship.
  • Sign them up for holiday classes or learn a new skill.
  • You can arrange playdates or meet ups for the older kids.
