Woman recalls how easily her laptop was stolen
It always helps to be proactive when leaving your valuables in plain sight.
It is naive to think that you are safe wherever you go. That doesn't just go for South Africa, but around the world. This is why being proactive and prepared for anything is vital.
A woman who learned the hard way that it is not safe to leave belongings visible in her vehicle shared her experience on TikTok.
She posted the CCTV footage from the Silverwater Crossing Mall in Pretoria.
In the video, we see her pull up to a parking space at the Silverwater Mall outside what appears to be the Pick n Pay liquor store.
As soon as she comes into the parking bay, a man walks up and acts like he is on his phone. He walks by her vehicle, and she gets out and enters the store.
He disappears from the camera frame and then returns after some time; this time, he pulls up next to her vehicle, driving a car. He looks into her back window and then opens the door and takes something.

- Be aware of remote jamming, check all your doors before leaving your vehicle.
- Make sure all your belongings are locked away and are not in plain sight.
- Invest in a car alarm system.
- Try to park in paid parking lots.
There is never a guarantee even when you follow safety tips, but it's better to be cautious than ignorant.
