Is a cardio workout really worth the risk of a visit to the ER?
Going for a quick run on the treadmill is often the easiest way to get a cardio workout in. It's like walking, but much cooler.
And with the machine's endless options for speed and intensity, as well as the added benefit of being able to listen to music or even catch up on the news while running, why wouldn't you choose a treadmill as your one efficient piece of exercise equipment?
Unfortunately, the relative ease and fun of exercising on a treadmill do not eliminate the risks. Any strenuous physical activity requires you to take precautions, after all.

In the United States, up to 24,400 treadmill-related injuries were reported to medical authorities in 2014. It seems people lose all common sense when they are faced with a treadmill and attempt to do anything but walk on it.
But here's the thing: we can't all be accidental treadmill-dancing stars, and no matter what happens on karaoke night, we will probably not pass as members of the daring rock band in this video.
So when you step on the treadmill, please don't do anything that could land you in one of these videos.
Please be advised that the following videos include foul language.
So, would your behaviour at the gym make you part of the statistics?
