With guidance from wildlife authorities and the added security of a swimming ring, Patrick holds the deer in his arms and swims to safety with it.
Police in the area were not surprised to hear that a deer was in distress, as the animals often get trapped in the lake: "there are retaining walls that help prevent erosion at the lake but also prevent the animals from easily getting out".
After being rescued, the deer reportedly spent four hours sleeping to recover from the ordeal.
While Patick was hailed as a hero for guiding the deer to safety, police did warn that attempting to save a wild animal could be dangerous as they could kick or cut people who get too close.
Thankfully in this case, all parties came back on dry land in one piece.
