Celebrating International Body Piercing Day on The Workzone with Barney Simon
Updated | By The Workzone with Barney Simon
28 June marks International Body Piercing Day. Barney Simon wants to hear the stories behind your body piercings, so send your pictures through on Twitter!
Body piercings always have a story behind them. Whether you got yours after a wild night out or you decided to pierce parts of your body simply because you like shiny jewellery, the possibilities are endless.
And on International Body Piercing Day, you can take a minute to thank the pioneers of body modification who made it possible for you to adorn your body however you want to today.
International Body Piercing Day focuses specifically on Jim Ward, an American man who started developing innovative piercing techniques in the 1970s. He has been called “the granddaddy of the body piercing movement”.
Jim's work put body modification firmly in the mainstream of Western pop culture.
Barney Simon wants to see all the fun ways you participate in the body modification movement. Send selfies showing off your piercings on Twitter, tag @jacarandafm and @BarneySimon.
Jacaranda FM's Kriya Gangiah got the celebrations started with a fun selfie showing off her nose ring.
