Defiant raccoons break in, steal Toronto woman’s food
Updated | By The Workzone with Barney Simon
A Toronto woman had to
fight off three raccoons who broke into her kitchen and started eating all of her
food.
There is nothing more unsettling than encountering an animal who is determined to take over your territory. If you find a creature with this attitude in your home, you might as well move out.
That’s what Toronto’s Jenny Serwylo may have been considering when, after hearing loud noises coming from the vicinity, she walked into her kitchen to find three raccoons feasting on the contents of her pantry.
Jenny says she was able to chase two of the wily scavengers out using a broom and some aggressive noises. The third intruder was determined to finish his meal and would not be disturbed. “He was like, ‘I’m eating here, get out of here,’” says Jenny.
So set on finishing the bread was this raccoon that it grabbed the handle of the broom Jenny was using to try to chase it away and “yanked” it. No amount of growling or hissing from Jenny could faze the animal.
Jenny couldn’t get hold of a wildlife company to help her get rid of the unwanted visitor, so all she could do was wait half an hour for the raccoon to grow tired of her kitchen and leave.
The animals continued scratching at her walls for two hours after they were chased out. Jenny called the incident “the most Toronto thing that’s ever happened”.
