A family from Kansas experienced a great tragedy when, during a visit to the St. Elmo area of Colorado, their Jeep crashed. One of the vehicle's occupants suffered fatal injuries, while the other (now identified as Samantha Orr) sustained only minor injuries.

At the moment of impact, the family's Goldendoodle dog Bentley was flung out of the vehicle and ended up at the bottom of a nearby hill. Samantha did not want to give up on finding her dog and people from the neighbourhoods around the scene of the accident rallied behind her, creating a Facebook group called Bring Bentley Home in order to keep track of all rescue efforts.

On Thursday, Samantha received reports that Bentley had been spotted wandering around near the crash site. Samantha flew back to Colorado as soon as she could and on 25 August she hiked the trail where her dog was last spotted.

This is the emotional moment she spots Bentley from a distance and begins to coax him to come home with her.

Bentley, obviously scared and traumatised after spending more than two weeks out in the wild alone, is hesitant at first. Samantha, with tears, says "it's your mama... come to me".

Bentley finally feels safe enough to approach Samantha, at which point she drops the phone and scoops him up in her arms.

Moments later, Samantha posted another video to Facebook, crying as she thanked everyone who had stood behind her and kept the search for Bentley going.

Samantha and her family may have experienced tragedy but now, after seeing the kindness in the hearts of the people of Colorado, they have at least one good memory from this time in their lives.
