Lion attempts to climb into car at Kruger National Park
Updated | By The Workzone with Barney Simon
A family driving on the S100 route at the Kruger National Park was brought to a halt by a young lion wanting to enter their vehicle.
When Hannetjie van der Westhuizen went on a drive along the S100 route at the Kruger National Park, she expected to see a number of animals as the road is known to attract lots of prey with its wide open plains. What she did not expect was to see a young male lion just centimetres away from her face.
As she was driving she came upon a pride of five lions who she was told are always keen to interact with vehicles that pass through. One male from the pride proved this to be true as he approached the vehicle and immediately tried to climb through the window which, fortunately, was closed.
The lion chews on the side mirror before noticing that there are people inside the vehicle and tries to make contact with them.
Hannetjie described her experience: "We were scared at first, but then we realised that lion was more curious and playful and was just merely investigating a strange object."
Hannetjie was excited about the sighting, saying in the many years she has been visiting the Kruger National Park she has never had an encounter this close.
