The turnout at this year's Cape Town Games for Older Persons was strong, with residents enjoying a range of activities aimed at promoting healthy living and active ageing.
The City of Cape Town worked with the Social Development and Early Childhood Development Department (SDECD) to put together this year's Cape Town Games for Older Persons sports day.
Senior citizens from the region (all aged 60 and above) converged on the Green Point Athletics Stadium on 3 April to participate in track and field activities ranging from brisk walks to wheelchair pegging and basketball.

Cape Town mayoral committee member JP Smith says the sports day is part of the city's efforts to encourage a healthy, active lifestyle among senior citizens: "The Games form part of the City’s objective to raise awareness on services available to older persons and to promote healthy living and active ageing."
The sports day was also an opportunity for the city to inform its senior citizens about the services available to them. JP Smith told IOL: "We've also partnered with numerous other organisations who will assist with health screening and related advice, as well as a focus on socio-economic aspects that impact on the lives of our older persons."
There was live entertainment to keep the seniors positive while the event went on.
By the looks of the moves in this video, age is nothing but a number when it comes to keeping active and having fun.
