Twelve-year-old reports parents to 911 for feeding him salad

Some people feel that eating certain foods is an affront to their taste buds, but they rarely go as far as calling emergency services into the kitchen to report an offensive item on the menu!

Children don't like eating vegetables, that's an accepted fact. Parents have struggled for years to incorporate healthy food items into lunch and dinner menus, and in most cases, they have won. Whether the child in question chews the vegetables with a smile or a frown is beside the point.

But it seems children have become increasingly savvy about their right to eat only what they want, when they want. A 12-year-old boy in Nova Scotia took matters to the authorities when his parents, despite his previous complaints, served him a salad.

The boy called 911 to express his dissatisfaction with the meal. The New York Post reports that when the boy did not get through the first time, he called the emergency telephone number again.

The police did eventually arrive at his family's house, but not to support the boy's protest against healthy eating. Police corporal Dal Hutchinson told the New York Post that the police took the boy's false alarm as an opportunity to teach him how wrong it is to waste police resources.

In a statement following the boy's phone call, the police said: "The improper use of 911 is an issue with all age groups and it ties up valuable resources, preventing emergency first responders from dealing with real emergencies."

The boy's overreaction left a bad taste in his parents' mouths. Observers online, who could also relate to not enjoying salad, tried to find the lighter side of the story.

What food do you hate so much that you would want to call the police to report an offense?
