What your sleeping position says about you
Updated | By Minenhle Khoza
How you fall asleep every night could reveal quite a lot
about who you are.
Ahh, sleep! What a wonderful thing. We all do it, we all enjoy it, and the health benefits of getting a good night’s sleep are well documented. But did you know that the position you fall asleep in can be used to determine your character and personality traits?
This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise though, as we also recently learned that the way women put on their bras can also be used to determine certain character traits.
There are six main types of sleeping positions:
The foetal position, log position, yearner position, soldier position, freefaller position, and the starfish.
Foetal position
Foetal sleepers sleeps in their side with their legs curled up. According to a survey conducted by sleep specialist Chris Idzikowski, 41% of people sleep this way. People who sleep in this position come across as having tough exteriors, but they are often very shy and sensitive on the inside. They also tend to overthink and worry unnecessarily.
The log
In this position, the sleeper is on their side with their legs extended straight and their arms by the side. Log sleepers are very social and easygoing (despite their sleeping position pointing to the contrary). They prefer hanging with the in crowd and are very trusting.
The yearner
This position looks similar to the log, except the sleeper’s arms are stretched out in front of them. Studies say that yearners are usually very open and inviting people, but they can be very suspicious and cynical. Yearners usually linger over making difficult decisions, but one they do, they stick with it.
The soldier
The soldier sleeps on their back, with their arms straight down their side. Soldier sleepers tend to be strong, silent types. They are structured and take things very seriously. They often have high expectations of themselves and those around them.
The starfish
This is the least popular sleeping position. Starfish sleepers lie on their backs with their legs stretched out and their arms stretched out by their head. These unconventional sleepers are often very loyal and make friendship a huge priority in their lives. They go out of their way to help when they can.
The freefaller
A freefaller sleeper dozes on their stomachs, head to the side, with their arms wrapped around a pillow. The name Freefaller sleepers have open, outgoing, and playful personalities, sometimes even coming across as brash. Despite all this, freefallers are (somehat surprisingly) sensitive to criticism as well.
