Learn how developing a mega-residence next to Diepsloot has upped Giuseppe Plumari's #Empathy
Updated | By Tando Ntunja
When you are responsible for the development of one of the most expensive residential areas in South Africa, the default assumption might be that you are out of touch with what less-fortunate South Africans go through daily. Not so for Steyn City Properties CEO, Giuseppe Plumari.
Think Steyn City and you probably think 'opulence' and 'extravagance' - how about 'opportunity' and 'local economic development'? Those are some of the concepts that Steyn City Properties CEO Giuseppe Plumari had in mind when he got involved in what is now known as Steyn City: "We live next door to Diepsloot, so I’m reminded daily of the need for work and the plight of the underprivileged and with Steyn City, we’ve created a labour desk and we teach guys brick laying and all that and give them courses to make a difference.”
Giuseppe expands further on the importance of participating in The Sun International CEO SleepOut™: “We realise that things aren’t going to change unless we get involved and as CEOs, we’ve got to take the initiative to make a difference.”
Giuseppe first became involved in the property industry in 1978 with alterations and constructing luxury homes. He later ventured into small scale developments in both the commercial and residential property sectors.
During his career, Giuseppe has assimilated valuable pockets of land. Part of his long-term strategy was to purchase land on deed of sale where he identified future nodes on existing arterial routes and obtaining rights for either development or on-sale.
This is evident in the north of Johannesburg which today is now the site of Steyn City Lifestyle Resort, a 7,000-10,000 world-class opportunity future development.
Steyn City Properties is the shared vision between Plumari and his long-time friend, Douw Steyn, to create a lifestyle resort that is unique.
Giuseppe has called on Brian Heineberg, who heads up quantity surveying firm Brian Heineberg & Associates, to Rise Up To The Challenge #4Leaders4Change
