Think that being super-fit will benefit BDO South Africa CEO Mark Stewart at The Sun International CEO SleepOut™?
Updated | By Tando Ntunja
You know what they say about the benefits of having a little extra weight as a buffer against the cold: so if BDO South Africa’s CEO Mark Stewart is a trim golfer-cycler-runner, will he survive out on the Nelson Mandela Bridge?
High-flying CEO of accounting firm BDO South Africa Mark Stewart is incredibly fit.
He runs, he golfs and he cycles - what room does he leave for a buffer out on Nelson Mandela Bridge? "I wish I did more of it! These days, it’s not always easy to do everything that interests you, but you’ve got to try and do the bare minimum, just to keep the heart from ticking over!”
Modesty aside, Mark has been with BDO in KZN since 1985. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1990 and has practiced as a partner /director of BDO since 1991. He is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, and is a registered auditor with the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors. He has a varied client base, ranging from family owned businesses to JSE Listed companies. In 2014 he was made CEO for BDO South Africa.
Speaking on his participation in The Sun International CEO SleepOut™, Mark says: “Unfortunately last year, I was overseas so it’s going to be the first time that I’ll be out in the open. I look forward to it, I really do. It’s something that’s quite exciting for me and I look forward to it.”
Want to hazard a guess as to who Mark nominates to Rise Up To The Challenge #4Leaders4Change?: "I think I would like to keep it within the profession and I’d like to challenge my colleague Ajen Sita from Ernst & Young or EY as they are now known (Ajen Sita is the CEO of EY Africa), so I can have some company on the bridge while we share ideas over a cup of coffee.”
