With Vodacom Group Ltd. CEO Shameel Aziz Joosub being the leader of SA's biggest telecoms group - an industry of speed - it's hardly surprising how he impresses upon the speed at which funds are raised for those in need on how The Sun International CEO SleepOut™.
Participating for the second year in a row, Vodacom Group Ltd. CEO Shameel Aziz Joosub speaks on the significance of this initiative: “I think it’s been a really great initiative to be creating awareness for last year with Girls & Boys Town and I think it’s a really good initiative as it raised a lot of money quickly and I think people need a task to raise up to and I think that’s what this initiative does.”
Shameel reflects on the personal effects of participating in The Sun International CEO SleepOut™: “I think it’s a very humbling experience and for me, I think it’s more about the awareness it creates because I don’t think one night out in the cold really does justice to what the homeless really go through, but I think what it does is it raises awareness, but more importantly, it raises funds for a worthy cause.”
Shameel is a former CEO of Vodafone Spain. He was previously the Managing Director of Vodacom South Africa and a Director of the Vodacom Group Board from 2000 until 2010 prior to his secondment to Vodafone Spain.
Shameel joined Vodacom in March 1994 after completing his articles and has held a number of senior positions in Vodacom. He was re-appointed to the Vodacom Group Board in September 2012. He holds a BCompt Honours, AGA (SA); CFA (SA) and MBA (Australia).
