"As a woman the biggest barrier she's faced has been her own self doubt." Rebecca Mbonde

It's one thing to say/think you support another woman who is doing great things, but we have to get to a point where we stop seeing the women in our spaces as competition and start helping each other collectively achieve great successes.

Rebecca Mbonde

Rebecca Mbonde is the youngest daughter of 2, from a single mother and has always been interested in the arts, performing and speech starting from lead roles in dramas all through primary school to public speaking in high school and then eventually campus radio. That is where she received her first call into the 'big leagues'.

As a woman the biggest barrier she's faced has been her own self doubt. Being conditioned as a young lady to seek the approval of others to build your self worth, especially in this industry, could cause you to fall into the trap of seeking the approval of your listeners, managers and peers.

"The day I decided that I am running my own race, I freed myself from comparing my talent to that of others."

She believe that glass ceiling does not exists for women in the entertainment industry anymore, with women on the biggest drive time shows and breakfast shows. There are more women behind the scenes in managing roles as well however there is no pretense that is easier for a woman to achieve great success in this industry.

"In my view, women lack active solidarity. It's one thing to say/think you support another woman who is doing great things, but we have to get to a point where we stop seeing the women in our spaces as competition and start helping each other collectively achieve great successes."

She is a combination of world leaders such as Oprah, mme Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, her wise and nurturing mother Georgina Somkawa Mbonde, and her own biased view of the perfect, strong woman who is the mother of Africa. This combination of women pushes is what pushes her to always work more, help more and love more.

"We do still have infinite great things to achieve, so perhaps we should focus less on being "celebrated" and more on being pushed to our full potential."
